THE CHIEF CONDUCTOR OF THE FESTIVAL
DOCTOR GREGORY K. LYNE (USA)

     

Dr. Gregory Lyne is the permanent Artistic Director, Chief Conductor and Master-Class Leader of Saint-Petersburg International Choral Festival "Barbershop Harmony".


Maestro recently became the Musical Director of two American Choruses from Northern California - "Voices in Harmony" and "Pride of the Pacific". These choruses attended the Tenth International Festival and presenting unique concert program which was designed by Dr. Gregory Lyne for Russian audiences.


Dr. Gregory Lyne for many years served as the Director of Music Education and Services for Barbershop Harmony Society in Kenosha, Wisconsin. In this capacity, he served the music educational programs of the 30,000 members of the Society, the world largest male singing organization. At the Society he coordinated the music publishing program, youth outreach activities, contest, judging system, music recording and the old song library, which houses over 750,000 pieces of popular early American sheet music.


Dr. Lyne came to BHS from Arizona State University where he was Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities. He previously served in similar capacities at California State University - Long Beach, DePaul University, Eastern New Mexico University and the University of Washington.


Dr. Gregory Lyne is a four- time medalist choral director in the International Choral Competition of the Barbershop Harmony Society. He earned his first gold medal with West Town Chorus in 1987, and followed that with three championships as the Musical Director of the Masters of Harmony (1990, 1993 and 1996). Dr. Lyne holds a doctorate in choral conducting from University of Northern Colorado.


His reputation in choral directing (of all types of music) extends around the world. He has conducted over 300 Festivals and All-State Choirs throughout the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, in Canada, England, Scotland, Australia and Russia. He has also served as a guest conductor of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Dr. Gregory Lyne is a well known clinician in USA and Europe. His master classes at the St.Petersburg State Conservatory of Music and State Cappella to Russian and European conductors and Barbershop singers are well attended and very popular.


A published arranger and composer, Dr. Lyne is a life member of the American Choral Directors Association and the Music Educators National Conference. Dr. Lyne is the author/producer of a number of articles, workbooks and educational videotapes. He is listed in the International Who's Who in Classical Music and Who is Who among Professionals.
